Terms of Use

Effective October 18, 2026

These terms cover your use of Duo, the app for iPhone made by Jurre de Ruiter (“we”, “us”). By downloading or using Duo, you agree to them.

1. Apple’s license agreement

Duo is licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”). These terms add to it. If the two ever conflict, the Standard EULA wins, except where section 6 gives you broader rights under the GPL.

2. What Duo does

Duo shows a dual-screen clamshell handheld on your iPhone and plays .nds game files that you import. It comes with one game card we made ourselves, DUO Demo. Duo doesn’t include, sell, download or help you find any other games.

3. Your games

You’re responsible for having the rights to every game file you import into Duo. Only use files you’re legally allowed to use. We don’t check, host or distribute the files you bring, and we aren’t responsible for their content.

4. Duo Pass and Duo Lifetime

After setup, Duo needs one of these to play:

For Duo Pass:

All purchases are processed by Apple. Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies; request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. To restore a purchase on a new device, tap Restore on the app’s Unlock screen.

5. Your data

Duo collects no personal data. Your games, saves and settings stay on your device. See the Privacy Policy. You’re responsible for backing up anything you want to keep; deleting the app deletes its files.

6. Open source and the GPL

Duo’s source code is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 (GPLv3). You can get it through the link in the app (Settings › Open-source licenses) or by writing to duo@jurre.me. Duo includes the open-source melonDS emulator core, also under the GPLv3. License texts are in the app under Settings › Open-source licenses.

Nothing in these terms limits the rights the GPL gives you over that source code. The GPL’s own warranty disclaimer applies to it.

7. No warranty

We work hard to make Duo great, but it’s provided “as is”. We can’t promise that every game file will run, or run perfectly. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for lost saves or other indirect damages, and our total liability is limited as set out in the Standard EULA.

8. Trademarks

Duo is an independent project. It isn’t affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any console maker or game publisher. All other trademarks belong to their owners.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. When we do, we’ll change the effective date above. If you keep using Duo after a change, the new terms apply.
